1、 Check before installing the knife
Clean the taper hole of the knife holder, ER chuck, locking nut, and knife handle, remove iron filings, dust, and oil stains, and blow the gaps with compressed air. Impurities can cause jumping, vibration, and breakage of the knife.
The diameter of the chuck and the handle must match, and it is forbidden for a large chuck to clamp a small handle tool. If the chuck cracks, deforms, or has a gap, it should be replaced directly.
Check that the blade holder body is free of bumps and cracks, the threads are intact, and there is no jamming or abnormal noise when manually rotating.
2、 Standard knife assembly steps
Insert the ER spring clamp into the locking nut slot and screw it into the tool holder body.
After wiping the handle, insert the chuck. The depth of insertion of the handle should be sufficient, and the tool should extend as short as possible from the holder. The longer the extension, the greater the vibration and the poorer the accuracy.
Fix the tool holder and use a torque wrench to tighten the nut according to the manufacturer’s recommended torque. Do not overtighten, as over tightening may cause deformation of the clamp head, and over loosening may lead to tool running and flying.
Install onto the spindle, clean the spindle taper hole, and lock it in place.
Check for runout using a gauge, with precision machining ≤ 0.005mm and ordinary machining ≤ 0.01mm. If runout exceeds the standard, check for dirt or damage to the clamp head, tool holder, and tool handle.
3、 Key points for processing and use
The maximum allowable speed of the tool holder shall not be exceeded, and high-speed machining shall ensure dynamic balance.
Stop the machine immediately if there is abnormal noise, vibration or spark, and check the looseness and damage of the tool holder clamp.
Do not directly apply cutting fluid to the threaded part of the tool holder to prevent rust, and there should be no residual chips on the conical surface.
It is strictly prohibited to strike the knife holder and nut with a hammer to avoid permanent damage to accuracy.
4、 Dismantling steps
The spindle has completely stopped rotating.
Two wrenches are used to fix the tool holder body and nut respectively. Loosen the nut and do not pry the tool hard.
Remove the cutting tool and chuck, and clean the chips inside the chuck.
5、 Daily maintenance and storage
Clean the taper hole, clamp head, nut iron filings, and oil stains after each use.
Long term storage, wipe clean and lightly apply rust proof oil, place in a knife holder storage rack, prohibit direct stacking on the ground, and protect the cone surface.
Regular inspection is required to replace the clamp head if there are pressure marks, cracks, tool seat bumps, slipping teeth, and continuous excessive jumping.
6、 Additional attention should be paid to the power tool holder (milling and turning composite)
Match the interface with the machine tool turret, verify the model, maximum speed, and maximum torque, and prohibit overloading.
The coolant of the center water outlet blade holder needs to be filtered, and it is forbidden to run without water to prevent the oil seal from burning out.
The new tool holder is run in at 70% rated speed for one hour of idle running.
