Five Types of Double-Edged Straight Groove Sharp Knives
Double-edged straight groove sharp knives use two cutting edges to create slots, outlines, recesses, and clean straight-sided details. Common types differ by flat or pointed tip, cutting diameter, flute length, shank size, carbide grade, and coating. Flat tips suit level-bottom grooves, pointed tips support detailed entry and outlines, and longer flutes reach deeper features when machine rigidity allows.
Select the geometry according to groove width, depth, workpiece material, spindle power, and required finish. Clamp the cutter with minimal overhang in a clean tool holder and confirm low runout. Use spindle speed and feed appropriate for two flutes, apply shallow progressive passes, maintain steady engagement through corners, and clear chips before they are recut. Avoid plunging beyond the tip specification and inspect both edges for equal wear or chipping. Correct selection and sound milling cutter practices improve groove accuracy, finish, and service life.
