Five Precautions for Flat Bottomed Sharp Knives
Flat bottomed sharp knives are designed for clean engraving, grooving, lettering, and detailed work on wood, acrylic, plastics, and similar materials. Before machining, inspect the cutting edge and shank for chips, cracks, rust, or bending. Clamp the tool firmly with the shortest practical overhang, confirm that the collet is clean, and verify that the cutter is centered. A loose or damaged tool can create vibration, poor dimensions, rough edges, and an increased risk of breakage.
Choose spindle speed, feed rate, and cutting depth according to the material and cutter diameter. Begin with a shallow test pass, then adjust gradually instead of forcing a deep cut. Maintain steady CNC machining, remove chips promptly, and avoid excessive heat buildup. Stop the machine before measuring, cleaning, or changing the cutter, and wear suitable eye protection. Correct setup and routine maintenance improve surface quality and extend tool life during milling and engraving work.
