Five Benefits of a Single-Fluted Milling Cutter
A single-fluted milling cutter uses one cutting edge and a large open flute, creating generous space for chips to leave the cutting zone. This geometry lowers cutting resistance and reduces recutting, which can produce cleaner edges and limit heat buildup. It is especially effective in acrylic, PVC, plastics, foam, wood, aluminum, and other materials where chip evacuation is more important than having many cutting edges.
Select the cutter diameter, cutting length, helix, shank size, material, and coating for the workpiece and required depth. Accurate tool holding, low runout, suitable spindle speed, controlled feed, gradual step-down, and effective chip removal help prevent melting, burning, vibration, and edge damage. Keep the flute clear and avoid excessive overhang. Correct setup improves wall accuracy, edge finish, productivity, and cutter life in end milling.
