Seven TCT Straight Cutter Applications
TCT straight cutter applications include grooves, slots, dadoes, rebates, pockets, and straight profile walls. A steel body provides toughness while brazed tungsten-carbide tips deliver wear resistance and a durable cutting edge. These cutters work well in solid wood, plywood, MDF, particleboard, laminates, plastics, and suitable nonferrous materials when geometry matches the job.
Straight cutters also trim edges, copy templates, cut hinge recesses, clean shoulders, and size panels. Bearing-guided versions follow a pattern or finished edge, while plunge-capable designs enter pockets and closed grooves. Different diameters, cutting lengths, flute counts, and edge angles let operators balance chip clearance, finish, rigidity, and removal rate.
Successful TCT straight cutter applications require a clean collet, short projection, secure workholding, and the correct cutting direction. Match spindle speed, feed, pass depth, and chip extraction to the material and cutter size. Verify runout, carbide condition, brazed joints, shank grip, fixture clearance, heat, sound, and guards before cutting. Take multiple shallow passes for deep grooves and replace or sharpen worn edges before failure. A dependable cutting tool supplier can recommend suitable geometry. General router practices improve accuracy, finish, tool life, and safety.
