The fine-toothed prayer bead knife is a specialized forming tool for modern wooden handicrafts, not an ancient weapon, developed during the mechanization innovation phase of prayer bead processing. In the 1980s and 1990s, China’s handicraft market experienced rapid growth, leading to a surge in demand for wooden prayer beads such as rosewood and sandalwood. Traditional manual filing and grinding techniques for bead production were highly inefficient and resulted in inconsistent quality. When using old-style coarse-toothed hole cutters or ordinary drill bits to process hardwood, issues like chipping, material sticking, and rough surfaces frequently occurred, making them inadequate for mass production needs.
To address machining pain points, domestic woodworking tool manufacturers optimized the tool structure and developed the fine-toothed prayer bead cutter. This tool features a dense-tooth shallow-edge design, offering gentle cutting and minimal wear, producing smooth and uniform bead blanks that significantly reduce subsequent polishing processes, suitable for various hardwood applications. Early versions were made of high-carbon steel with poor wear resistance, later upgraded to high-speed steel. After 2010, carbide versions emerged, greatly enhancing durability and compatibility, gradually becoming the mainstream cutting tool for prayer bead machines and bench drills, and remains in use today.
